For everyday work and meeting use, I use mechanical pencils and BP pens. I write too hard and fast for FP's during meetings. As a result of some forums on both favorite BP's and Mechanical Pencils. I bought both a Parker Jotter in Stainless Steel and a Pentel Graphgear 1000. The Pentel, according to a review, is metallic with some aluminum. They both have been great. The Parker Ink refill is great.

Which got me to thinking about a FP in Stainless Steel. Do you have a favorite Stainless Steel FP? Do they make many?

Oh,I see a Yongsheng pen (on its nib has “永生”in Chinese)on #2. Is "Yongsheng"called"wing sung"in the US?

That Parker 51 in flighter version changed everything, what a beauty. I was never fond of Parker 51's aesthetically but by God that has to be something....Although my favorite remains a Parker 45 flighter.

@ Gary how much do you think a flighter 51 should cost? I have never seen one before the picture you posted so they must be quite rare!

I'm seriously torn between my 1951 "51" Flighter (now a "set" having found it's year-matching pencil-mate in Australia!), and my plain stainless MB Le Grande OB.

It depends on my mood (oh, and what watch I choose on a given day).

So, just this morning I am riding my bicycle on the way to catch the bus to go to work, and as I am going down the "steep hill", I hear something skittle on the pavement. On the off chance that it was part of the bike or something, I turn around and go back. The HORROR!, The HORROR!! (have to say it twice for a proper Heart of Darkness reference, sorry.) One of my pens had slipped out the pen roll and out of my bag that was strapped to the back of the bike, evidently the pocket flap was mal-positioned due to getting the tail-light out or something.

But then things got better. It was my Parker Frontier, the all stainless steel version! I picked it up, and placed it in my pocket for safekeeping. But I did expect the see the usual dent in the end of the pen that flighters often have. However, when leisure in my commute permitted, I inspected the pen, and could only find a slight burr on one place on the barrel, not really visible at all.

So, yeah, stainless steel pens, coming off a bike at speed, and no visible damage.

Or maybe I was just extra-ordinarily lucky. . . . :happyberet: :bunny01:

For me ss pens are Parker pens:

I have a ss Sonnet and a Lamy Studio as my toss around pens in my backpack. They look nicer and more decent than my usual toss around Safari.

The companion of many school years had been a P45 flighter. Still have the pen.

And my favourite flighter is a P75 that had been used as a parts pen (needed a replacement for a bent nib). Managed to straighten the bent nib and the P75 flighter is back in use. :vbg:

I have both a Parker 51 Flighter and an MB Le Grande Stainless Steel II with a fine nib. I prefer using the MB as it has a lovely weight and just seems to fit my hand beautifully.

The Parker 45 is a workhorse and a fine pen.

I've not paid too much attention, but it seems when a 51 Flighter comes up for sale they run from $150-225, which I would think is a function of the condition. I went back into the Sales Past section in the Marketplace and some were listed for over $300. These were listed as being in excellent condition.

My replacement 51 Flighter doesn't have the crinkles on the barrel end which are typical and which effect the price. I don't plan on letting this one go.

Maybe the agent in the US is from Hong Kong and used the cantonese pronounciation instead of putonghua.

I have a Pilot MYU 701. It's my only ss pen. Super tough. But a trifle small for my everyday use, if I'm to be honest.

(Pedantic: Great avatar. I've always loved this picture)

Parker 51 Flighter-actually this one from Stylophiles was mine at one time. To be sure, it never looked this good until Bill Riepl

took this picture.

My Pilot M90, is a classic among the stainless steel pens. A bit small in the ink capacity but I love it!

+1 for Lamy Studio. Nice pen.post-54837-0-24649200-1303428208.jpg Bought one recently for my son's 50th birthday. Good price from Pam at Oscar Braun.

I love my flighter/stainless 61s with gold trim (English make, nice fat juicy medium nibs) and also my Parker 25s. Both great pens, very different nibs. The Parker 25s are not smooth but not scratchy either. Just a nice bit of tooth.

I also have a stainless Frontier - it's ok, nothing special.

I would like to get a 51 flighter someday - haven't popped for one yet - I went for colors and scratched that itch pretty hard. Plus, the 61s kind of fill that need for me...

I think everyone should have a 100% stainless pen...
