Hi,

I came across some photos from one of my Grandad's trips to the Parker Pen factory in Brazil. So I just thought I would share them with you. They are from 1982 and can be seen here: Parker Pen - Brazil Factory

That's very interesting!

I had a very quick glance of the production in Newhaven a couple of years ago, and I visited the Swedish pen-factory Ballograf in 2010.

They are all quite similar (except that Ballograf is still running).

Lots of fun to see these images. thanks for sharing!

ps. Any images from Newhaven?

OK, Tony...can you, or any expert, explain what some of those machines were used for? I'm fascinatedby that giant machine that looks a bit like the Saturn/Appolo space rocket!

I have a couple from the South African factory, they are very similar to these. There are some older ones from Newhaven which I haven't sorted through properly but I would guess most of them are in his book. The more recent photos I have are mostly of my Grandad and the people he worked with etc rather than the actual factory.

Great pictures. Do you know if that factory was located in Sao Paulo? It would be great to have more information and history related to that Parker factory in Brazil.

I have a couple of Parker pens made in Brazil and they are both stamped with "INDUSTRIA BRASILEIRA" on the cap lip. One of those pens is a Parker 75 roller ball which was a present from my boss when I graduated from college in Brazil. The other is a Parker 51 fountain pen. The quality in both pens in not up to par with their counterparts made elsewhere. But their are very special pens in my collection and I treasured them a lot.

Thanks for posting those pictures.

Great photos, thanks for giving us a peek at one of the Parker Factories we hear so little about, something I've often wondered is, how much of a 'connection' all the various factories had with each other? as although they each produced many of the same models the finishes sometimes styles tended to vary quite a bit from country to country, giving the impression they had quite a free rein.

I for one would love to see the South African photos (or any others :clap1: ) if you find time to post them, now there is a factory we hardly hear about.

Also curious...did your Grandfather ever tell you the reason for his visits to the other Parker Factories?

I'm not entirely sure exactly where in Brazil that factory was.

In 1982 my Grandad was relocated to Janesville for three months in the role of Group Engineering Manager with particualr emphasis on Argentina and Brazil. So this is when he would have taken the photos. I imagine he would visit the factories to see if everything in the manufacturing department was running properly etc.

Here is a photo from the South African factory. I think it was in a place called East London. It was taken in 1987, I only have three photos, they are all very similar.

The Parker factory in Brazil was located, indeed, in São Paulo and operated from 1959 to 1990.

Thanks for the info. One of my pens was a present given to me in 1991, meaning it was perhaps one of the last year pen Parker made in Brazil.

Here are pictures of my two pens ...

Parker 75 roller ball in black with gold trim. This pen was given to me new in the box as a present when graduating from college. It was my daily user pen for about 5 years until the cap lost its snapping grip against the barrel. Unable to carry it in my shirt pocket, this pen became my "desk pen" for many years. It is now stored in its original Parker box.
