Hi, djed, :W2FPN:

Thanks for sharing your Parker pictures. I have some Sonnets, and I like them.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for the welcome. Here are a couple of better pics, need a better camera though for macro photography.

Its a 18K nib writes good but I am still getting used to it to write nicely.

Cheers, Djed

I'm sorry to say that it's a counterfeit.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing based on my experiences with my Sonnet; if it writes at all, it's better than mine.

Explain your reasoning for calling it a counterfeit please...

From the blurry pics, the least I can tell it's an Mk1 Sonnet with a wide band...and a supposedly two-tone nib. Where are the Palladium highlights? Also, the nib marking seems faint. This model was thin banded...the finish only came that way.

Look, Tom. I may not be Antonios, but I know a thing or two about NOS Mk1s...owing to the fact that I have one.;)

Fingers crossed for Sheaffer’s future

I'm sure Battersea Pen Home would be very surprised to hear that  See pen no 17

I don't think the snotty retort is needed as I only asked why you thought it was a counterfeit....

Also owning ONE Sonnet does not make one an expert on the pens... HOWEVER, I would consider Battersea Pen Home a bit of an expert on the line of pens...

I have had well over 100 Vacumatics and Parker 51s pass through my hands for restoration and for sale and would never try to come off as an expert.

It's not a retort...I ain't here to fight, just to enjoy the hobby with people who understand it!

As for Battersea, I know...that's where I thought of getting my Sonnet, until I sumgai'ed it from eBay.

I KNOW I'm not an expert!! Plus, I'm not from a background that came from Fountain Pen fans...I learned of them from old Disney comics. I didn't know Fountain Pen collectors were THAT short tempered! I was just trying to help the guy! If the Sonnet was counterfeit in a post, wold you ignore it so as to 'not appear an expert'? I'm here for enjoying and helping others in the hobby, not battling! I hope that's the last time I'm saying this. Don't assume that all High school students are here to pick fights or appear 'smart'.

The pen there is in swirl pattern...I saw a counterfeit like this, in a BLUE swirl...that's exactly what it looks like! My friend had an authentic Sonnet in this finish in a thin cap band. I know it's an original because the color was very good, the nib was original AND It was his father's, who got in 1997...I don't know if it's rare or test, but yeah...it's there. Too bad it got stolen...plus, coming with Jotters...not very common...Jotters and Sonnets are MILES apart! If I get some clear pictures, I can tell for sure...even the engraving seems faint, and the hallmark wrong! I just need the pics for the nib.

Sorry but I fail to see how unfounded remarks trying to make the pen out to be a counterfeit is 'helping the guy'?? The OP didn't question it's authenticity, he merely wanted to show us the beginning of his collection, which he is obviously proud of and quite rightly so. I just hope you've not spoilt HIS enjoyment!

I agree....... you could have posted a photo.....now that would have been a worthwhile post ;)

The OP never said they 'came' together? Another assumption?

If you've noticed, being told in the board is LOT better than being told when he's showing the collection to someone. I've experienced it with a counterfeit pen...the same finish! I was crooked out when I knew NOTHING about Sonnets. I just knew it was god-looking and expensive. It cost me 100 bucks, and I spent the whole night disappointed over my dad's pen fanatic friend making a funny joke out of me in front of his kids...I don't want anyone made a joke out of in front of someone they know...I know how bad it is.It wasn't until I had completed my 'each pen from the last of the big four' that his stupid kids shut up. I guess you now know where I saw the counterfeit, too...

As for the assumption, sorry...I've been REALLY worried over my REAL firedance Sonnet's nib...seems the guy who was sending it HAS run out of them! :crybaby: It was my first good pen! I assume you understand how bad it is for the first pen to start your hobby is nib-less now. :bawl:

Sorry 'bout that assumption...looks like I AM getting a bit away from the topic...

As for the pictures, think of the poor guy. It was his dad's favorite pen! Guess I know why that is, now.

The pen is a swirl pattern. I saw this a fake, in the swirl of the blue ... this is what it looks like! My friend covered in a thin band at the completion of authentic poetry. I know this is an original, because the color is very good, tip is the original.

I just think the engraving is a bit off...

That's a little harsh, we are all still learning - a wise thing to remember, although it might have been a wise move to ask your Dad's friend for his advice before you bought the fake, but that's probably easy to say in hindsight, I guess we learn from our own mistakes - didn't you try sending it back to Parker for an exchange for the real deal?

The Sonnet nibs are widely available, no need to make it redundant. What's wrong with the original nib? If you're looking for a reliable supplier try JM Lewertowski (lewertowski/pensellerfromfrance on ebay)

For what it's worth I can't see a problem with the engraving, the photos on Antonios page show the correct engraving and a closer look, especially at the number 5 in the 750 hallmark, convince me that this is the genuine article ;)

Yeah, I should have...I couldn't sleep the whole night because of it. As for the nib, it's pretty banged up. A girl dropped it nib-first because of a spat... the nib's tines came out REALLY bent. I'll try the seller, but for Mk1 nibs, I'm REALLY losing hope... :crybaby:

Fingers crossed for Sheaffer’s future
