Filofax & Levenger Circa System… A Match Made In Heaven?

As most people here on FPN I have spent years looking for that ‘perfect’ notebook/agenda. I’ve tried many notebooks and systems but none have felt right!

So, about 6 months ago I sat down and made a list of what I wanted out of a notebook I always carry with me.

I also wrote down what I liked and didn’t like of all the stuff I’ve tried in the past. The main points that came out of that was:

I disliked carrying around an agenda AND a notebook.

I loved my Filofax (a soft and supple Stratford, personal size). I loved the combo of an agenda and notebook in one place. I disliked the ring mechanism, the slimline was too small and the standard was too big. I also found it being a pain to use as I often move pages around.

I love the practicality and simplicity of Levengers Circa system and took the (financial) hit and ordered the hole-punch and a couple of covers in both Junior and Pocket size. Didn’t like their paper when using a fountain pen – which is pretty much all the time ☺ but that’s were the hole-punch comes in handy, I just use whatever paper I like.

I use my Circa’s all the time and always carry one of the Pocket sized notebooks with me, but found that it really needed a cover of some kind to survive being thrown in my bag and carried around on a daily basis.

I searched high and low for a cover, preferably leather, but the few I found were either not quite the right size or from a luxury brand and therefore cost an arm and a leg.

I wished I could find a cover for my pocket Circa, a cover such as my Filofax…

...which was languishing in a drawer…

…hmmm…

I got my Filofax and had a proper look at the ring mechanism, then I got some slim tipped pliers and went to work! Slowly and carefully I managed to pry the ring mechanism off – completely destroying it in the process – without any damage to the leather.

I then got my pocket Circa and slid it in… the fit was perfect!

I have now been using this combo for a few months and I love it. I have everything I want and need in one beautiful cover; agenda, notes sections with lined, squared or plain paper, and as I have the hole-punch, anything else I might find useful.

Below you can see pictures of how my little DIY project looks.

Looks great!

FYI: You can save money by purchasing from Rollabind instead of Levenger. Same stuff but without the Levenger logo on it. 60 for the desk punch instead of 70, etc.
