Platinum Pigment Rose Red

Hi members,

 

I've got this bottle, recently. I couldn't find reviews of it, therefore I decided to upload my review with a easy test. Well, I think this red is very unique and want to share with the members. It's my first review...

We usually use red colored pens to highlight or edit documents in Japan. But I don't think it's so popular in other countries. It may be the reason why some Japanese red inks are not listed in the index of ink reviews. ( I mean "blanks." )

I've been using Pilot's red instead of Platinum's just because my pens made by Pilot. But I became to want to try the pigment rose red after hearing of its reputation. I was just curious if it's truely against water or not.

 

 

 

 

They look very similar in color, however there is an amazing difference in water resistance.

I still prefer Pilot's to Platinum's pigment because of its flowing. It's just my taste, though.

Now that's a great review! I'm looking forward to getting some of these, although I too might prefer the old style (non-pigmented, e.g. blue-black, which is more of a pure dark blue).

Especially your drops of water on the specimens. I've never ever seen such a good waterproofness comparison!!

Would it be possible to show a swab of this ink and the Pilot ink side-by-side, or perhaps two thick lines close to one another ? As you no doubt know, it is sometimes hard to differentiate colours posted in threads, and this would assist greatly. Thanks.

Very nice review. Well done! I agree with Lapis that your water drop test is a very effective visual.

 

I've also been wondering about these Platinum Pigment inks, particularly the brown/sepia. I might just have to add one or two to my next ink order.

Sadly, I have too many inks in my collection to add another ink bottle.

 

All in all, thank you for the review. Can you do a review for the Platinum Pigment Sepia (brown) ink as well?

1) Both names were written by a glass pen of Cipin's.

2) The round shapes were made by cotton swabs.

3) The funny lines at the bottom are from bamboo chopsticks...

 

I think those colors are extremely similar. The characteristic differences may be shading and dry time except water resistance. Pilot's red is very stable in the shading. On the other hand, Platinum's has some spots in thick lines. It's interesting. And one more thing (which may be important) is that the pigment red is a bit dry slow. Although these features, I think I could get good value for it.

Thank you for this review! I like the color, and your water tests and comparisons between the two brands are very useful. Is it easy to flush and clean out the Platinum Rose Red ink from a fountain pen?

Your reviews are immensely clear and enjoyable, thank you! I like the name 'rose red' and am a bit surprised it doesn't exhibit as much shading as the Pilot red.

And thanks in turn ! That's a fine ink comparison, including the koi shown on the upper right for a delightful touch of whimsy.

 

Fascinating colour, and I may have to reconsider my current ink purchase moratorium for this ink. I've been looking for a waterproof, if not close to bulletproof, red colour for my editing, and this might well work. I've been hoping for a Sailor pigment, but mayhap it's time to jump for a bit to Platinum.
