Montegrappa Extra 1930

Yes, finally both pens arrived!

As promissed, here is the "photo post", and as you can see, there is a turtle brown and a green variegated. This was my choice of two from four possible ones. Both are fitted with EF nibs, both real EF in width and both 100 perfect in flow and smoothness just out of the box (something not usual nowdays (kudos to MG people!) ;)

I'm not going to review them as there are already some very well done reports in this forum, just to say that quality is top and by now they perform flawlwssly. The green variegated celluloid is stunning and is also translucent, but opaque enough not to resemble a demonstrator

OK, no more words... let's go to the photos...

enjoy...

They are both beautiful! The Turtle Brown one is especially STUNNING. What a gorgeous celluloid! It looks like it glows from within.

Oh heck. Now I have to put my 2 back in rotation.

Ditto, although mine are the turtle brown and the blue celluloid. They are truly beautiful pens.

I meant those 2 in particular. I have 4 and would love to find a blue with a B nib. Problem being the price point when they do finally appear. :headsmack:

Hi all,

I have a question, near the end of the pen where the piston turning nob and the barrel meets does the material shrink and leave a gap between it?

Recently I saw an extra that has a pretty good price on it but it has that problem. I just want to know if that was an manufacturing defect or because of time.

Mine haven't. Anyone else?

Mine (a Turtle Brown) doesn't have a gap either.

Thanks all for all the inputs.

About the gap, it would be very interesting to see a photo showing the offending part. I would suspect that something has slipped a bit, perhaps the knob or perhaps the captive part of the shaft/converter. Mines have no gap at all (they are new also) but thinking in shrinkage of material is something I would not do. Celluloid is very stable in normal conditions and I would not think in shrinkage unless diameter has also changed. That would be catastrophic! :yikes: The only case I have seen such things is when the pen has been exposed to considerable heat, and it was not celluloid, it was acrillic.

Very nice! I love the nib shots. You take great pics! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Brian, a real compliment comming from you!

I find nibs particulary hard to capture correctly, due to millions of reflections, even using a light tent!

Those photos were done in a rush, so I'm not very happy with them. As I'm not professional, sometimes I acieve my goal, sometimes not at 100%, and this time is one of them. Perhaps in the future I'll repeat them in another different approah :hmm1:

For the photo purists, this was taken in a light tent with only one light source and some reflectors, a D700 and a 60mm micro

Thanks for the input. Yesterday when I saw the pen with the gap I pointed out to the seller but he was indifference about it.

Needless to say I did not get it since I was not sure if that effected the piston.

When the time is right I will just order it from Pentime.
