I don't do journalling ....yet...but I have two lovely journals hand-made by a member here, into which I am writing my 'life story', for anyone who's interested to read when I am not here.

It is a very interesting exercise...possibly quite 'therapeutic', also!.... digging through my early and more recent memories, and trying to put them into some sort of sensible sequence, while allowing room for additions as they come to mind.

Roger:

With regard to journalling, I find myself in a similar situation to yourself. I have a few beautifully bound books which I've collected over the years, and they are all blank! On a couple of accasions, I've thought of trying to start a journal, but I can't think what to write!

Like you, I'm attempting to put together my "life story". This was my daughter's suggestion and I intend to handwrite it all, eventually, but in the meantime, I'm doing it on computer for a very practical reason.

When I first started this venture, I tried to collect my random memories of incidents as they came to me, and soon got in a complete tangle. Now, I have sections headed by the year the events occurred, which I add to, as fresh memories surface. New, intermediate memories are slotted in with the appropriate year and in this way, everything is chronological and should stay that way, until I draw a line under my ramblings, and handwrite it out.

As I'm still compiling it, it's typewritten on computer but I will finish some day and handwrite it out. If I live long enough, I'll post the result on this thread, as it's a bit like a journal!

This is as close as I've come to actual journalling. This is from a history of my family, which I wrote out, some time ago.

A little over a year old, but still fairly accurate.

Should try to incorporate journaling into my daily writing sessions again, if only to see what my handwriting practice has resulted in. Just one problem: my practice writing is much larger than my journal writing.

Finished my first journal! In September 2008 I bought a Moleskine and I haven't gotten good at daily journaling, but it's finished. Many pages contain lists of things to do, or short descriptions of the past day, issues and happy things that are on my mind.

One of the lighter pages in my journal:

My godmother. Unfortunately, she's not doing very well and I'm glad to have this picture of her.

When writing practice turned into apparently much-needed journaling, ranting and venting. I just folded all the printed guide sheets and pasted them in my poor Moleskine journal. It's gotten quite fat because of this.

(Note to self: don't start a writing session with "A dark Thursday morning" unless you have a ton of fun stuff on your mind.)

That's a beautiful way to present the book; plenty of space and double columns - very easy on the eye. I'm going to try a few pages in that form because I sometimes have trouble keeping consistency across a large, wide book, even though I do keep my hand light and use my arm, especially when I'm not writing at a desk. I have noticed too, that when I turn a large book (to achieve the best angle for my natural writing position) the bottom left corner is sometimes sticking into my chest! Any thoughts on a cure for that? - longer arms perhaps.

Sincerely, beak.

Great idea and great pics.

Here are my journals along with a charcoal Lamy Safari.

I use more than one journal. A small Moleskine for the internet, a small Moleskine appointment book, a Moleskine journal with an inexpensive At-A-Glance cover and a cheap composition book for different study notes.

I'm working to improve my handwriting skills. There is some beautiful script here.

how do you guys practice to have those incredible penmanship? If my writing looks like some of these handwriting, I would probably write a lot more than I do now...

Here is tonight's entry and some catching up on postcard exchanges! This is just a cheap notebook $0.09 at Target, yes 9 cents! I bought a dollar's worth for my some to color in, and now I use one for my Palmer Method practice book. Found some good combo's with nib/ink on this cheap paper. Esterbrook SJ with a 2968 nib and Vintage Skrip #32 ink.

I also take my time to doodle when I get in a rut with my Palmer drills. Just some random stuff...Scheaffer School pen, F nib, Sheaffer cart.

I haven't kept a journal for years.

I started this one in 2004 and kept it going that year but only did two pages in 2005 and a few more in 2006

Having started to read it I found it quite interesting so may well have another go at it.
