Show Us A Photo Of A Journal Entry

Blade Runner

Recommended Posts

The nearest thing I have to a journal are my daily work notebooks - middle of the stack, Moleskine reporter (no trouble with the paper for me) - and the rest is all ephemeral; scraps of paper / odd notebooks. None but the work stuff survives very long. I don't even keep a diary. I wouldn't know what to put in a journal, and don't tend to have the time to copy things into it from other sources. One day maybe. I think for me a scarp book with odd things saved and pasted in could be the way, but it hasn't happened yet. Loved seeing others' stuff!

Cool photo and handwriting!

Here is a text-only entry, in which I extol the virtues of Noodler's Red-Black and Clairefontaine paper.

I'll occasionally stick pretty pictures in my journal, such as these. The images are technically decoupage paper.

Thanks! And if anyone is wondering what a scarp book is, it's a specialized form of scrap bok.

Despite a degree of intimdation, I'll bite:

I am currently writing on a heavy resume paper which I have punched for the purpose. There is a free shelf here at work where some heavy duty old school three ring binders are sometimes available. I keep the pages in a non-descript heavy plastic one that I picked up some time ago.

I'm glad you posted! Your handwriting has character AND is legible!

I couldn't help but read your letter. I too experience a sense of abundance

I thoroughly LOVE it, but occasionally experience "info-overload"

and feel the need to "go completely analog" for a day or two.

Hi Joel... I'm just curious: what's the pen/nib combo you used here? I love the line variation in your text.

Wonderful entries everyone! Thanks for sharing.

This is a photo of my journal some five years ago - but my style is the same - the journal was "Exacompta" made in France, bought from Pendemonium, with lined pages that took every pen and ink and nib combination I used. The pen in the picture is one of the LE Filcao Tukano pens, with silver barrel overlay and a lovely smooth medium nib.

Love the way you write one way and then flip the book. I think I might have to try that. Do you use the whole book and then come back? Or do you spin book for every page?

I'll bite on this one!

Not the greatest example of my handwriting, but such is the life of my journal entries. I tend to use them more for the sake of writing, and getting my thoughts on paper than for looking spiffy. I save that for personal correspondence and such. :D (It doesn't help that I am trying the technique that Ken posted Here, testing out different grips, and trying out different lowercase Qs. Like I said, more for the sake of writing :P)

Also, apologies for the poor image quality. Camera batteries are dead, so I had to use my phone. TBH, the camera pic wouldn't have been that great. It's a little point 'n shoot that doesn't always know how to focus or get lighting right, even when you "set" the white balance with the dinky presets...

I checked your link and picked up a a fake security scan. The one where it looks like it runs a security check on you computer and finds some bad stuff on you pc. It may not be you or this link, but just a warning in case it happens to anyone else. Since my pc is new, I happen to know that I did not have that software and just closed the whole window.

Just to be clear, not accusing Katu of anything, that stuff is everywhere.

Here are a few shots of my daily prayer journal, including the first page of today's entry. When writing in my prayer journal I am not generally focused on my handwriting. It is more notes before my prayer time so I quickly jot down ideas, requests, things I am thankful for, etc.

Gorgeous, Ernest. Very nice script.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I like to read text on my Mac using the software called Nocturn.

Everything is inverted. Text is white and background black. Easier on the eyes.

This is how my journal appear....

Ernest, Now THAT is sweet....!

Well, here's mine. It's a mess, but it's far better than it used to be. Pelikan M150 and Parker Quink, black, undiluted.

Half a page of the smallest Moleskine squared-paper (quadrille?).

I always stamp & sign the end of notes…not sure why.

@fifthblackbird - OUTSTANDING I wish my handwriting even came close to that... what pen/nib was that done with?

Here is a shot of my humble little moleskin journal with the first page of it's latest entry...

http://mark.intervex.net/fpn/images/journal_1.jpg

The pen is a Regal "Elizabeth" fountain pen, a pretty good writer with a nice heavy solid metal barrel... (looks a bit like a knock-off of a Montblanc Marcel Proust) It was a cheap eBay find, $23 including shipping, brand new, with 3 carts and a converter. Ink used is Bethge No. 5 (a private label by J. Herbin)

Very cool, but what's in the glass...?

The first one is intentionally blurry. I want to convey what I like to see when I flip through my own notebooks:

The second photo is of notes I took at the San Jose Museum of Art, of the Mapplethorpe: Portraits exhibition. This photo shows my handwriting and should explain why I prefer F nibs (or Nakaya medium) (the notebook is narrow ruled):

Beautiful photos, every one. There is something about words handwritten in ink on paper that is so much more evocative than a page of printed text. To my eye, a page full of handwritten words is beautiful in and of itself.

I will pull out an old journal and take some photos soon.

Thanks for sharing on this thread!
