Hi,

I love this picture and feel it captures the beauty of some of our sterling silver pen designs.

I love these bigger pens - they're so perfect in my hands. Mary, do you have any idea why the beautiful colors are always on the smaller model bodies? I wanted at least 3 of the recent color, one [the luscious green stripes] to the point the owner was nice enough to let me play with it for some days, but they're simply too short for me. Any ideas?

The reason is generally that sales quantities seems to be higher for the Wellington size pens. Although, when people go to pen shows and pick up the Churchill, Bard or Winston, they tend to be pleasantly surprised.

Have you looked at the Bard or the Winston? It is available in a number of new finishes:

Another alternative is that the MetalWrite RR2 will soon be released. They will have these pens at the Washington DC pen show.

Do we have ballpark pricing on those Metal Writes? I love the Damascus effect.

And anything under Churchill/Britannia size just seems to be the wrong size for me. What're the dimensions on those Bards and Winstons?

I'm fascinated by the idea of a Churchill in the Blue Ripple mentioned in another thread.

Ballpark bucks on the MetalWrite RR2 is probably going to be around $1995 and I hear (rolleyes.gif) that will include a Damascus stand and the ability, with provided sections, to switch between fountain pen and rollerball. The clip engraving will be slightly different and match the barrel engraving. The clip will also be removable as in the RR1 design.

Cheers,

Rich

Hi Ghost Plane

I have seen you use the term "Ballpark" before about prices. Being a non-native speaker I do not know this idiom. What does it mean?

Thanks

It's a baseball [sports] idiom and means the range of price one might expect on average.

Right, and when someone says the price is out in left field it means it's too much! But, it's still in the "ballpark." Go figure.

All of the pens are definately drool-worthy, for me, the Bard, in particular, is a striking pen.

A question about nib imprints. On the silver pen, centre, the imprint is "B", meaning broad. On the Bard the imprint is "M", for medium. On the Winstons, the imprint on the Lapis is "IB" and the other is "IM". What does the "I" indicate?

Thank you.

I believe those are their italic options on the nibs. They offer Italic Medium and Italic Broad.

Conway Stewart offers a choice of eight nib grades in 18 carat solid gold:

Extra Fine

Medium

Broad

The IB and IM stands for Italic Broad and Italic Medium

What is the price for the Bard? I like the clip connection to the cap.

World Lux in Washington State has the Bard listed on their website at $630.

Kind regards,

Thank You Mary and also Thank You Ike.

Another example of the outstanding thoroughness of Conway Stewart. Odd that some other manufacturers don't bother to clearly display nib size.

Best Regards

Greg

That's annoyed me for years. I missed a lot of fountain pen pleasure simply because everyone stocked only F and M so that's all I knew about. Then I learned about B nibs and never looked back. :cloud9:

Today I love IBs and BBs and OBBs [on MB] and all sorts of sizes that most people don't even know exist.
