Trademark no. 06078, Norris H. Spaulding, "Pens", May 14, 1878, used since about 1873, is for the name "N. Hubbard" and an image of two crossed nibs. Trademark no. 09699, Warren N. Lancaster, "Fountain-Pens", Sept 26, 1882, used since Apr 15, 1882, is for two crossed fountain pens and the words "The Lancaster Government". Trademark no. 67088, The Firm Of Johann Faber, "Pencils, And Erasing Rubber", Jan 14, 1908, used since Aug 2, 1879, is for the words "Johann Faber" and an image of two crossed hammers. And my publisher's emblem, the pensmith, or penmaker hammer-and-pen image, conflates all of these images.
