Casein CS pens

Hello all,

Does anyone know if CS have abandoned producing any more casein based pens?

Since the releases a few years back, it seems to have petered out.

Despite the inherent delicacy of the stuff, it still remains a very interesting material in my view...

Cheers,

Tadeyev

Yes, they have. There might be some still with Retailers and possibly a few laying around in the UK, but only Mary could find that out.

Cheers!

I have two vintage casein pens, a Conway Stewart Dinkie 540 and a Burnham, about the same size and colour.

Although the pens are charming, the material is problematic and these two require some extra care and attention, which I don't mind.

But it would not be an option that I would choose in the future. Perhaps the modern Conway Stewart caseins were not as delicate, and my CS is definately more durable than the Burnham, but casein is a water soluble material.

The casein is easily identified by appearance and odour. It appears more dull than celluloid and rather than being perfumed with camphor, casein smells like antler, horn or ivory, vaguely like scorched hair.

An intriguing choice for a fountain pen.

Hi Tadeyev,

Conway Stewart has ceased making pens out of Casein due to stability concerns. We are working with our suppliers and I will let you know if this option is available again in the near future. Meanwhile, below are a few images of the Churchill and Model 100 in White Casein. The Tiffany finishes are fantastic as well, but I don't have any at hand to post to this message.

Found another image!!!

I love this pen -- it was an exclusive produced for Pens Plus. The cap is black resin and the barrel is the Tiffany material.

Thanks Mary, that's indeed lovely!

Last question: is casein also out of CS's bespoke service?

Cheers,

Tadeyev

Hi Tadeyev,

At present, Casein is not being offered through our bespoke service -- sorry.

Kind regards,

Mary

I own the Tiffany Casein Duro. Frankly I stumbled upon it on an auction 'site and snagged it at a decent price. Wonderful pen and a definite "keeper."

My best
