Diamine Midnight

Another dark blue from Diamine.

Actually very close to Majestic when you don't look too closely.

Midnight is a little lighter and misses the red touch of Majestic completely.

I didn't do the water test, since it's the same as with every Diamine Ink: not waterproof, it washes right off.

I agree. Midnight's color is nearly indistinguishable from Majestic Blue, but Midnight is more well-behaved. MB smears and smudges and dries slowly on every pen-paper combination I've tried. But MB has a brilliance and pop that is missing from Midnight.

I've been thinking about picking up a bottle of this ink and I think your review has finally convinced me (love the Mumford & Sons lyric!).

Nice review, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Thanks for the review! I especially appreciated the sample of other blue inks beside the Diamine Midnight. Very revealing contrasts there.

STOP..........All these ink reviews are costing me money. I see a review of an ink I don't have and then I want it. mad.gif I'll end up drowning in ink.

I really want a bottle of this! I'm not sure where to buy it from though...I'm not a very savvy ink buyer. I looked at peartree pens, but they don't seem to have it! I'm sure I'll find it somewhere, but my bank account sure hopes I don't.

I ended up buying Diamine Midnight from The Writing Desk in the UK; I've not seen it available anywhere in the USA. Shipping was a bit pricey, but what can you do when you "must have" an ink. :headsmack:

Well I'm looking for a great ink and I really like this one so far...and I suppose about $14 including shipping isn't bad, especially from the UK. I think it's next on my list for ink. I've seen a lot about Daimine ink lately, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's supposed to be really well-behaved, right? Looks great

Hi,

ErrHmmm. I believe my Review of the Lamy Green provides cost avoidance.

Hi,

I respectfully disagree with your comment to the effect that Diamine inks wash right off the page.

It was my experience with the Diamine 'Ingido', (see my Review), that that ink was surprisingly water resistant. I even gave it a Smiley - and that was with soap, not just plain water.

I would appreciate your efforts if you were to soak a sample, then Post the result/s.

Best Regards,

I don't think this ink is available in the USA. I bought mine direct from Diamine in the UK. I think I bought 3 bottles and they threw in a sample of ink cartridges. They often have specials. Yadda Yadda, just sayin', not shillin'.

I have never used Magestic but I really like the Midnight a lot. Thanks for reviewin' it.

P.S. Like Sandy1 indicated if you're going to discuss it's waterproofness it's best to do the test and show it. I for one am not big into the bullet-ness and water-ness thing... I just ink what I like and use what I ink. :)

"Every Diamine ink i encountered" certainly would have been a more correct way of saying it.

Right now i can't do the test, since all my stuff is at my other house, but i will be able to post it in about 3-4 days.

In the meantime, i can only link to my results of Majestic Blue on Clairefontaine paper:

Quick Comparison of 6 Noodler's + Diamine Majestic Blue (+Watertest)

Midnight Blue performed pretty much the same.

A Series of Unfortunate Events led to me being at my other house earlier then expected, but at the same time forgetting my camera and scanner.....

So i apologize in advance for the very bad pictures i took with the iSight camera of my MacBook, but i did a little comparison involving Midnight Blue and seven other inks, some of them waterproof. Because of the quality it's more an attempted proof of concept than a real test though....

Before:

After:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2vc9eft.jpg

The paper used is Rhodia standard paper, the ink was able to dry for about 15 minutes, and then put under a running tap for 10 seconds.

I know it's not easy to tell, but Rustic Brown is completely gone, Midnight Blue is only a faint shadow, Sapphire and Majestic did only marginally better.

Baystate Blue bleeds like hell, turning into near purple, Legal Lapis and HoD are nearly unchanged, Midway Blue is very faint as well, but it performs better than all four Diamine Inks.

I will replace the images with proper scans, when i get back to where my scanner lives.....

Hi,

I did a wet test of the Diamine 'Deep Magenta', which is the only other Diamine ink I have. (& I like this one!)

I used my utility paper - the HP1124 Laser Copy paper - not the lined Rhodia or Clairefontaine 'Triomphe'.

I try to take a 'real world' approach to the wet test: a soak is a soak - no scrubbing: as if the sheet were to be dropped in the dishwater; or even the bubble bath, if writing in the tub. {as if} 'Rain Drop' is to emulate a random splatter. Maybe I should rename that as 'Splatter Test'.

Hmm
