Wahl-Eversharp safety pen

Never thought I'd ever get my hands on one of these...but somehow I did :-) Very little is known about Wahl safeties, apart from the fact that they were made for French and/or Italian market. What surprised me the most, though, is the fact that the retracting mechanism is very similar to the mechanism used in Waterman safeties.

Wahl-Eversharp safeties appear to have been available in mottled red hard rubber, and in black chased hard rubber (Grecian Border chasing) in two different lenghts, both small compared to a Waterman's 42, for example. As best as I can determine, they were never catalogued, nor were they featured in any advertising. The material used for the mottled pens is quite different from that which was used by Wahl in its Signature pens. The material is typical of that found in French pens of the period. I have mint pens in each material and size, all of which were found in France. I am certain these were made in France for Wahl-Eversharp to be marketed in Europe. The mechanism is similar to the Waterman and many other French safeties of the 20s and 30s.

Here is a photo of the four variations of which I am aware.

Cliff, now that photo just killed me - I've never, ever seen nor *heard*, let alone read about the Grecian Border Wahl-Eversharp safeties! My pen is the smaller size I can see you also have, though the photos make it look a bit larger. Also, many, many thanks for a bit more information about these pens, not to mention the killer photo!

Best regards
