Semi-Batarde script

I wrote this page some months ago and back then I didn't have a scanner, so I just use my mobile phone to shoot it.

It's my first attempt to write Batarde script for a full A4 page.

Even though, I would want to write the authentic French Batarde one but I couldn't seem to find a specimen (my Calligrapher's Bible book was back home and I'm too far away) so I browsed through the internet and came up with some impromptu on some characters (with Black Gothic as a baseline, though).

I thought to write another one soon as now I am at home and have my book handy. Then, I'll post another.

I forgot to justify the paragraph and just realised it almost at the end.

I think more than one hour (less than two hours for sure but I can't really remember exactly). I'm not sure because I just started drawing the lines, writing and writing, then took some photos and watched some movies right after.

Super! It is one thing to write a few words, but to fill an entire page with consistently good writing takes quite a bit of skill and concentration.

The hand looks very similar to the one I have been practicing (derived from Batarde). Could you post a link to the base sample you are using?

Wow!!!! I have never tried a Batarde script before. That page look absolutely amazing! You have definitely inspired me to give that a shot!

Thank You for the fine example!

Wow, that is amazing. It looks like it was written in medieval times. Excellent!

Oh, great job! It reminds me of the opening scene of Sleeping Beauty, where the storybook opened and this script was in front of my eyes.

Lovely to read.

  • 1 year later...

Can't wait to see more examples! I want to start working on this script within the next month. Thanks for the inspiration!
