Spencerian sample

Recommended Posts

About a week ago I invested (finally) in an oblique pen holder, and WOW!!! I haven't touched any of my other pens since! I figure Its been a long time since I posted any samples of my writing, so here goes! Spencerian today, hopefully it is up to par. I know the down strokes are sometimes a bit heavier, but I have fallen in love with this style!! Will post a Copperplate sample soon. Huge thanks goes to JBB for the nibs that have changed my whole game, and to caliken/everyone who posts their samples for the inspiration! Hah

Swavey, that looks very nice. I've been wanting to try an oblique holder. Thanks for another vote in that direction.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

That is very beautiful writing! Is your oblique holder adjustable?

Keep posting samples.

One thing I have noticed ... I and l are the same. How come?

Haha, yeah you have a very good point. I always forget that I do that. Have done since I first learned cursive as a little kid... Thank you for reminding me of it, I shall look into it now :)

If you are doing so very well with the plastic oblique holder( AND YOU ARE DOING VERY WELL!), just wait till you get your hands on a nice oblique pen. It is very different in my opinion (IMO)

Thanks for sharing your penship. Every time I see someone's Spencerian I want to run to my desk! Great inspiration.....

I'm afraid that your image has disappeared. Could we impose upon you to re-post it?

Congratulations on a very nice Spencerian example, and welcome to the Oblique Penholder club!

If you haven't already done so, have a look here at some very useful advice from Dr Joe Vitolo.

It's worth considering an oblique holder with a metal flange, which is adjustable with a pair of needle-nosed pliers. Very small modifications to the angle of the nib in the holder, both vertically and horizontally, can make a big difference to your writing and to your pleasure in producing it. "Pen & Ink Arts" sell some excellent holders which are illustrated in their catalogue. Speedball plastic holders are very good, but they are limited.

And yes, please do continue posting examples of your work.

Rgds,

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.
