Quattro Penne Italiane

My Delta Profili returned with a new nib today - an excellent fine nib that I'm very pleased with. I also got a new acquaintance today; a Montegrappa NeroUno with a ridiculously smooth, stubbish medium nib. I got so taken with this lovely nib that I wrote a letter with it within hours after I recieved it. It is probably the smoothest nib I've ever written with. I had read that some found this nib somewhat without personality, but the nib I got isn't a boring buttersmooth nib without character. It shall be very pleasant to get further acquainted with both. These Italian pens...

Was the black and red theme deliberate, or did it just happen? That Montegrappa nib does look intriguing... :hmm1:

I think it's time for an Italian accessoire matching your pens:

It began by accident, but I love that red colour, prefer silver trim and often favour black pens and realised how pleasant they get along.

I had the opportunity to get all of those pens at bargain prices - three unused from the GBA sale and the Montegrappa from a fellow FPN member who gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. I have done this buy-try-sell (those who didn't feel absolutely right in the end in a rather unsentimental fashion) for almost a year now and I actually believe that these four pens are among the few long time keepers. I love the combination of high performance and function that these pen features. The Montegrappa nib might well be a nib you'd like. I guess you'd prefer the broadest possible and maybe some more stub to it, but I'm surprised by the combination of extreme smoothness and yet a bit of character.

Very nice set of pens, congratulations!

Not that my Italian is great or anything. But I believe in the title you want "Quattro penne italiane" because the adjective "italiane" should agree with the feminine plural "penne". "Italiano" is masculine singular.

Mille grazie! I don't speak Italian...unfortunately. I think it is a very beautiful language and hope have time to learn it some time.

Ehi, I see a very good Italian language knowledge here!

And dande, since you are very fast: next one will be cinque!

How do you like the Nerouno? I had it but finally sold it because of the nib (and filling system). Mine was yes - smooth - but without proper personality, a medium that I find dull and without this "stubbish" charm that you mention. Do you manage to have some line variation out of it?

Anyway the design is great and the overall quality is well noticeable.

Enjoy your new pen.

Best,

Can you compare the feel of that Delta to a Visconti, weight, girth, things like that? I was wanting a Visconti Opera in a rollerball like the 365, and Delta makes it in a roller. Just curious as to how they would feel in the hand, as I like something lighter than heavier, but not very light.

Deltas tend to be lighter than Visconti, but widths vary. I'll let the 365 owners weigh in as I don't have one, but some Deltas are too short or too light for my preferences. My bias is toward the heavier metal pens, so hopefully that gives you a start. My Passion is a little too short and too light, falling somewhere between a 144 in length, but closer to a 146 in width. The Profili pretty close to a Waterman Carene in size, both length and width, but lighter despite the metal body. The LEs such as Tuareg, Inuit, and Native American are a fatter than a 146, yet a little longer, especially posted, leaning more toward the Van Gogh Maxi length and width.

When I was studying at my regular café this morning I realised that my mobile phone and my Delta Profili makes very good partners - accidentaly. This is the snapshot I took with another phone camera. The photo quality could be better, but I kind of like it as it is.

This is the peaceful and pleasant veranda of the café. A calm oasis for reading and writing in the morning. Also a phone snapshot - but it gives an idea of the place.
