New pen in the Flock

I was looking for other pelikan pen, when the local pen seller recommended me the M430 which I never thought I could find it and see it in flesh here. I only saw the photos in one of the websites. The seller was merely selling on behalf of a pen collector whom is getting rid of his collection. The pen is in mint condition. And then I realised that the bird was following me back home. :)

The M430 is a M400 series size which has a silver sterling cap but its clip and capring goldplated. I'm not sure where I got the information but I was made to understand that the pen was quite rare and produced for 6 months only and it was before 2003 (the pelikan logo had 2 chicks before the mother gobbled the other chick)[sorry, just being cheeky here]. :P

The pen is rather handsome, having a bi-colour cap and a black barrel. IMHO, the pen handling is comfortable when it stays posted. The M400 is actually a pretty light pen (with its black cap). I like the BB nib which is a dual colour (old style) of 18k gold. The nib has not seen ink but I will gladly immerse it this Monday! :meow:

I have taken some photos to share with you together with other pens in its range (or precisely size) for comparison. Cant wait to get hold of my incoming M450 tortoise and it will be a new addition to this flock.

Great addition, my congratulations!

Now you need the M420 & M425 to complete the series...

Thank you for the detailed pictures. The logo on the M430 looks strong yellow: is like that or is it the normal gold silk logo?

Cheers,

Thanks for the complement.

As for the M420 and M425, I think these pens have to wait as my budget has now burst.. :o

Wow.. You really have sharp eyes. I myself did not realise it. Upon comparing, yes, the M430 pelikan logo is a lbit orangy compared to the M1050 logo which is light gold. I'm not sure whether this is normal or not but this blend together witht gold plating of the clip (and crown cap) as well as the capring.

Cheerio..

What's the difference between the M430, M425 and M420 ?

The other two have no gold plated clip and cap rings right ?

And the pattern on the cap for M420 is different.

How about the barrel ?

Saw some M420 with translucent barrel. Do all of them come like that ?

In addition to that, the M420/5 have a metal turning knob, and the M425 has a different metal pattern: parallel circles rather than vertical stripes.

The barrel of the M420 is black, with a green ink window.

Cheers,

This pen was available at Galeria-Kaufhof two or three years ago for a short time. At the same - short - time the new style M400 brown tortoise set was sold. Both for a very good price, I think below EUR 130. Later they sold some kind of old style M400 brown tortoise sets, but the M430 never came back.

Thanks for the insight. Now I know the history of this pen. Looks like Galeria-Kaufhof commissioned some interested pens and in limited volumes. That reminds me of the M250 tortoise brown (old style) commissioned by Levenger which has a single ring at the turning knob like the M600 series (old style).

Just got my M450 vermeil tortoise. This pen does not need any introduction. The pen really blends with its metal siblings (and M400 demo).. :cloud9:

Cool. Daeng, you really know how to make peope drool. This in fact is a very interesting pen. I have not came across this pen before and it is sure an eye opener. :)

The last time I saw, this M430 is still available at martini's website. ;)

Congrats on the latest acquisition, Tony.. Nice photo shot too! Did you get a two-toned old style nib on this pen?

P/s Will you be looking for a M630? :-)
